Let's Build a Data Warehouse : Power BI Visuals



Introduction:

In the Let's Build a Data Warehouse project, we went into deep detail covering four phases of building a data warehouse and OLTP model. When we concluded Part IV, we ended with a tabular OLAP model. This model (and supporting warehouse) was built on my machine, and a screenshot of the visuals below are shared in a pdf. The complete project from OLTP to OLAP is available in my Git.

AZRetail Store Results Q3 2018 Dashboard

The first functional requirement from the "Let's Build a Data Warehouse" project was to allow decision-makers to look at store performance on a quarterly basis, since there are sales goals, and goals for product promotions. In this dashboard, we can see the results at the store level and are able to filter by both division, store, and month within the quarter. We built a hierarchy in tabular model for Division -> Store, Year -> Month and ProductCategory -> Product; here, we can see why. The waterfall graph is nice, because it shows ups-and-downs clearly, while the boxes on the left show the totals for each store.

The first screenshot shows overall results, which seems to fall quite short of sales target, and the second screenshot show results based on fitlering.

The second functional requirement from the "Let's Build a Data Warehouse" project is that decision-makers need to look at the sales per state and be able to slice by product hierarchy, store hierarchy, and time. This give managers the ability to look at changing sales over time.

The final functional requirement from the "Let's Build a Data Warehouse" project is that decision-makers need to look at sales over the last year, to see if there are unexplainable declines. The user should be able to filter by Division, Store, Product Category and Product. Again, our hierarchies are being put to work.
